Why Does My Bedroom Smell In The Morning

Author Message Anonymous

Small bedroom, and it often smells in the morning. I'm guessing from odors leaving our bodies during the night, bad breath, etc. Gross! I use the oil sticks, but the fragrence is never strong enough. Does anyone have recommendations on how to combat the odor? Can't leave the windows open.

And... eeeeew.

Are you having sex the night before? Do you sweat a lot?

Showers the night before. Lavender oil on pillow.

You need air circulation in there--can you install a ceiling fan?

This. Is there a return air duct in your bedroom? Can you sleep with the door open? You need to improve the ventilation.

This is a common problem. I was reading a housekeeping tips book once (it was more interesting than it sounds) and it said contrary to popular belief, it's really not sanitary to make your bed first thing in the morning. Whether you shower right before bed or night, it's normal for people to expunge moisture (sweating, breathing, etc.) The statistic was there about how much moisture we put out and it was a shocking amount. They recommended getting out of bed in the morning and NOT making your bed. Instead, you should pull your sheets back and drape them over the footboard to air your bed out. All day is good, but at least while you're getting ready in the morning.

Home Comforts, by Cheryl Mendelson? It really is an interesting book!

I like to shower or bathe before bed. And I don't make the bed first thing; I let it air.

LOL, i will use this topic to combat spouse's need for us to make the bed. I hate making the bed and think it's a waste of time but the other half says its a must.

And. . . if so, keep it up. The smell is evidence that you are doing it right. We now resume our regular programming.

PP here, the marriage, that is. You may or may not be doing the sex right, but probably you are.

Yep. You need to improve air circulation.

Air circulation--keep the door open when you can, and the windows, too.

Wash those sheets on a weekly basis--including the duvet/comforter as needed.

Replace pillows.

Vacuum or get rid of the rug/carpet entirely.

If you need to make your bed in the morning, just fold down the top sheet and comforter so that the mattress can breathe.

Open windows and doors. I open the windows even in winter. All it takes is a few minutes. All dont forget about the people in the room - make sure you brush your teeth before bed and drink lots of water (should be doing that anyway).

I'm with the poster above. Open the windows. It's the only way to rid the house of smells. I leave the bathroom window open at night. On Sundays (even in the winter, I leave the windows open while changing the sheets/cleaning the bathroom).

I pull the covers and sheets back when I get up and open the window. Then it stays open until I leave the house (so for about an hour each morning). My mother and grandmother always did this, so I guess I'm just doing what I saw my whole life.
